Updates & Changes: New Office, New Rates, New Collaborations

I haven't posted to this blog in quite a while, so here's an update for you!

It's been a busy summer.  Most notably, my office moved to new digs back in May! I'm now working at 12 Fair Avenue, just off Mission St. near Bernal Heights. This is the office of Zoranovich Chiropractic, the amazing chiropractor I was working with at the old location. I am one of three CMTs working there. The others are Scott (Deep Roots Bodywork), and Jason (Steady Flow Bodywork). We all see our own private clients there, as well as working with many of Dr. Z's patients. Together we make a pretty good team. The space is beautiful, with a large adjusting area as well as three good-sized massage studios. If you haven't stopped by yet, please do!

My fees are now $140/hour, and $180 for a 90-minute session. I can do longer and shorter sessions as well, by request. The rates are in keeping with the other practitioners in the space. Massage clients of mine who decide to also see Dr. Z will receive 50% off the initial exam (normally $150); patients of his receive regular hour-long sessions at $125.

Feel free to stop by the office for a tour and to meet everyone! The best times to stop by are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoon and early evening, or Tuesday and Thursday mornings.  And of course, I'm happy to show you the space by appointment as well. I'm available by appointment afternoons and evenings Sunday-Thursday. Hope to see you soon! Be in touch!

It's that time of year again. Hopefully all of you are keeping an even keel during this rather crazy time of year. It's dark, it's cold, the world is a little messy this year, and yet we're supposed to be "FESTIVE"?!

Well, here are two things that might be helpful as you navigate through this Solstice season:

First, a 20% holiday discount on massage services, good through 12/31. An hour is now $95, and a 90-minute session is $130. (May not be used with other discounts or offers.) Just click on the "BOOK NOW" button on the right to schedule.

Second, I now have GIFT CERTIFICATES. Click here to learn more. I hope you all have a great end of year, and stay tuned for exciting changes to my practice in the new year! We're moving!

Self-Care In Challenging Times

10/4/2017

A lot of friends and clients are asking about self-care. We seem to be at an unusually challenging time in history, and I've been seeing an awful lot of stress lately, so I thought I'd re-post this article I wrote about self-care, from a few months ago. (Originally published June 1017, slightly edited here.) Feel free to leave your own tips for self-care in the comments.

We're in the midst of one of the most tumultuous years the US has seen in decades, if ever. There’s some crazy stuff happening, and not just in politics and the headlines. People are being fat-shamed. Powerful women are not being taken seriously. Trans people are getting mugged and worse. Racism is on the rise. My friends with disabilities report an increase in verbal or physical attacks against them. Some say we're in the middle of three concurrent epidemics (opioids, guns, and PTSD / fear). Many people are hurting, not just for themselves, but for their friends and families, their community, their country, and the planet. If you feel overwhelmed, you’re certainly not alone.

What’s the solution? Obviously showing support, sticking up for each other, and activism and social justice. But beyond that, just as important, is self-care. What can you do for yourself on a daily basis? Here are some suggestions:
  • Ask for help.
  • Take more walks.
  • Spend 4 hours a week in nature (even a city park!).
  • Get off the computer and spend time with friends.
  • Challenge yourself with a group activity, maybe something new: yoga, dance, games, crafts.
  • Get creative: draw, write, cook, sing, play.
  • Start a journal – write every day.
  • Call a friend from away.
  • Lower your drug and alcohol intake – even just temporarily.
  • Drink more water – dehydration affects your mood and your physical well-being.
  • Challenge yourself to eat at least 4 healthy home-cooked meals a week.
  • Take a nice long bath.
  • Go dancing.
  • Stretch every day. Gentle simple stretches remind you of your body.
  • Masturbate.
  • Ask for hugs from friends.
  • Rub your body. Massage your feet, your shoulders, your arms and legs.
  • Get backrubs.
  • Get a massage or several.
  • Put down the computer and read a good book instead.
  • Tell yourself you’re doing just fine.
  • Hug yourself.
  • Love yourself.
